About the Workshop
This CERTIFICATE course is an introduction to knife skills for home cooks who want to begin to chop like a chef. Students start by exploring types and uses of knives and cutting safety. Students next enjoy plenty of hands-on lab time in our commercial kitchen by practicing essential cuts like dice, brunoise, julienne, batonnet, chiffonade, paysanne, and tournée. Students learn about the proper dimensions of a cut for different meal preparations, as well as how to reduce waste in the kitchen. Students also learn about essential kitchen hygiene and food safety.
Practical Outcome
Students will increase safety and efficiency while building confidence with knives in the kitchen. This leads to improved preparation, skills in meal presentation, and reduced waste.
Chef Hat Included!
Students will also receive a welcome bag with a water bottle and pen. Students take some chopped ingredients home to make a soup stock using a tasty recipe we provide.
Tools and Attire
Students must wear non-slip steel toed shoes, black pants, and a white t-shirt.
